Hemp Oil Dose
Hemp CBD dosage. How to take it? How much? Often questions for anyone starting on Hemp CBD.
Disclosure: The FDA limits what we are permitted to say as Hemp CBD is not regulated by the FDA. Hemp CBD is not a drug. Hemp CBD is derived from Industrial Hemp Cannabis plant. Hemp contains Cannabinoids that our bodies need and are processed by the bodies receptors. The Cannabinoids in Hemp are mainly Cannabidiol (CBD), and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the "psychoactive" cannabinoid in marijuana" but is not permitted by law to be in excess of 1% and usually 0.3% or lower. CBD can be of any amount as long as it is derived from Industrial hemp. If the CBD is derived from the Cannabis plant usually termed as "marijuana" it can only be sold in states that are medical or recreational cannabis/marijuana.
With all that said: CBD dosage is a very personal thing. What works for one person is not what will work for another. It has nothing to do with weight, body structure or age. It is believed to be mostly dictated by how much the bodies Endocannabinoid System needs the cannabinoids.
The best way to start taking Hemp CBD is to start low and increase slowly as your body allows. This may seem like a slow process but it is the best. Many find tinctures to be the best way to start so that they can start with just a few drops per day, adding more drops each day. Some start by taking Hemp CBD one time per day and then two times per day increasing until the desired benefits are found. Some may feel the benefits at 5 mg per day and others might need 500 mg per day. Again, there is no absolute dosage for everyone. Each person needs to find their "sweet spot" or "therapeutic dose" and no one can decide that for anyone.
Hemp CBD and Cannabis AKA Marijuana do not have history of any deaths due to overdose. It is advised to talk with a doctor or medical person who is educated in Cannabinoids. There are some interactions that can occur with pharmaceuticals such as: blood thinners can increase thin blood with cannabinoids.
If Hemp CBD is taken in too high a dose, increased amount too soon or too fast people have had few side effects such as headaches, tiredness, gastrointestinal upset. IF this occurs, reduce the dosage and increase more slowly.
Some people feel irritated or sleepy if they are on too high a dose. Reduce the dose and monitor your feelings.
- Always start low and increase slowly.
- Increase until you feel benefits.
- Some feel improvements with 5mg and others may need up to or exceeding 600mg per day.
- You will be the best to decide what works.
- Do not start with a high dose.
- Try different methods of use: tincture, edibles, vaping, topically, suppositories.
2X’s a day (morning and evening) 4-5 drops under the tongue. Hold it there for about 30-60 seconds and then wash down with a drink.
Same as Day 1.
2X’s a day (morning and evening) 5-10 drops under the tongue. Hold it there for about 30-60 seconds and then wash down with a drink.
Same as Day 3
2X’s a day (morning and evening) 10-15 drops under the tongue. Hold it there for about 30-60 seconds and then wash down with a drink.
Same as Day 5
You get the idea. Keep increasing until you get to your “therapeutic dose.”
*If “side effects” occur, slow down the increase.
Some people need to take several doses during the day instead of just 2.
If pain returns, take some more. Some people need a dose every 3-4 hours and others don’t need it for 5-8 hours. Everyone is different. Find what works for you.
The method of consumption can change how fast you feel the effects and how long the benefits last. These are only examples and can vary depending on the person:
Tincture – feel the effects in 10-30” and can last 3-4 hours
Capsules – feel the effects in 30-45” and can last 4-6 hours
Edibles – 15-45” and last 2-4 hours
Concentrates – 15-45” and last 2-6 hours
Topical – 5- 30” and last 2-4 hours
Vapors – 5- 30” and last 2-5 hours
Suppositories – 5–30” and last 4-8 hours.
Dosage for Pets:
It is recommended to not putting the dropper directly in your pet’s mouth. It will contaminate the entire bottle once you put it back in the bottle. It is suggested using a syringe or a separate dropper that gets cleaned after each use. You will not be able to put the liquid under your pet’s tongue and get them to hold it there for 30-60 seconds. Your pet can just swallow the liquid or put it in their food or treats.
The above Suggested Dosing schedule is suggested similar for pets but it is suggested to start off using less drops. The liquid “tincture” can also be added to your pet’s daily food. Most will eat the food and not even know the tincture is in their food.
Side effects to look for in pets: Sleeping too much (this can be difficult to tell sometimes but keep monitoring), restless, loose stools, or other unusual behavior. If any of these occur, reduce the dose and either stay at that dosage or increase more slowly.
Hopefully this will clarify dosage questions. If not, feel free to ask.
